Erich Kästner"In the big city of Berlin
he was sitting at a very small table. The city was big, even without him. It seemed like he didn't matter With plush all around. Everyone was within touching distance, and yet he was alone. In the mirror in which he saw himself, they were all there again, as if that were necessary. The room was pale of pure light. It smelled of perfume and pastries. He looked tensely from face to face. He did not like what he saw. Looked away sadly. He smoothed the white tablecloth and looked into his glass. He had almost had enough of life. What did he want from this city that made him feel so lonely?" |
